I painted a design on some ceramic tile (not glazed) with wood paint (I was bored and it was all I had!), but I need to seal it on somehow. It rubs off fairly easily. Any suggestions? The acrylic sealant I use for sketches doesn't protect the "test" piece I made.

Use shellac or laquer

There is this sealant for glass paint. It needs to 'bake' in a normal oven. Or you can use epoxy resin. Just poor over your design and cover the tile with a glaze like layer. put sticky tape around the edge like a small dam so the resin does not run of the tile. Ask for it in your art store.

Both methods will make your tile look like it has been glazed for real. I think you will be extremely happy with the result.

It's better to remove the tile altogether, including the old backer board. We did that as insurance, we found there was no insulation in the wall so it was good that we did. Cover the entire wall with sheetrock (green board, meant for a wet location) then glue the beadboard in place with water proof adhesive (applied with a caulk gun). It's worth the extra time and effort for your own house and you'll know it's done correctly and will last for many years to come. Good luck, been there done that and still in the process. It's a labor of love, I guess! :o)
