Smoking around kids should not be tolerated. I grew up in a home with a parent that smoked all the time and I hated every minute that I had to smell the smoke and I also hated that I had no say as to when my parent could or couldn't smoke. I don't care that some parents smoke outside, the kids can still smell it in the parents clothes and hair. I truly think that due to second hand smoke I have mild asthma and the fact that my other parent passed away (non-smoker) at the age of 52 with lung cancer. All tobacco should be banned and made illegal. Marijuana is illegal so why not tobacco, its just as harmful if not more so.

You are right, you have a point. I didn't know anyone was trying to ban cigarettes. I know they are banning smoking in public places so as not to give innocent people second hand smoke. I think the thing is that smoking is bad no matter what, but if someone drinks lightly and responsibly there is no harm done. There are many more deaths due to smoking than drinking. Drunk driving laws are not always effective, but the law makers do what they can. We cant ban everything, next we will want to ban knives because people get stabbed with them, then how will you slice you sandwich ?

No, generally, but there are problems when you set "hard and fast" rules. For example, I was at an amusement park and smoking was confined, as in international airports, to one tiny smoke filled area. Problem- where do you think the toddlers of the smoking parents were also relegated, by default, to? Neither the park or the airport provided a separate childcare area for the children to wait while the parents smoked. Do we ban anyone who has ever conceived a child from smoking? Do we ban smoking entirely from all areas except private homes and vehicles? Then the children of smokers would not go to the amusement parks. They would, instead, stay in smoke filled cars eating drive-through fast food.

I don't tolerate it, period. To me, lighting up shows that you have no regards for yourself or anyone around you. It shows that you crave cancer and emphysema more than you love your children.
It's unfortunate that smokers choose to smoke to begin with, and continue to do so. Yes, it's addictive. Don't be a moron to start.
People who smoke and have children, regardless of whether or not they have asthma, are showing poor judgement and parenting skills. I don't care if people do go outside to smoke. You're still slowly contributing to your early death, not caring at all about being around for the children. Selfishness is huge. The kids will eventually have to make a decision about turning off life support for their parent b/c the parent chose cigarettes over them.
Well, when a child is parentless b/c the parent passes from lung cancer or emphysema, then the child will finally breathe easier.

HELL NO!!!! passive smoking does more harm to children and new born babies then to adults. they can get asthma much sooner then a person who didn't smoke had children.
i think it should be illegal to smoke around kids all together.
i know smoking is now banned in cars when you have children in it. which i think is a good thing.
i'm a smoker and i agree with all the new laws being brought in now. such as cars and pubs and bus terminals and everything like that. i think it's the right thing to do.
you're not just killing yourself when you smoke, but you're also killing everybody else around you, especially those who don't smoke.

Definately not. there are a lot of reasons why. I smoke, yet I won't smoke around a child. If a child is around I go outside. If it's a home where there is a newborn, even if the newborn is not present in the home, I won't smoke at all.

Absolutely not. I feel so sorry for children with parents who smoke, and I'm glad that my parents do not smoke. I think that anyone who smokes in a car or house with children should be charged with child endangerment. If you have children, it should only be legal to smoke outside. Parents who smoke inside or even worse, in cars are exposing their children to dangrous gasses, and possibly sentencing them to an early death from lung cancer or other complications. It is one thing to kill youself by smoking; to expose children to tobacco smoke (which is likely to give them lung cancer, emphysema, and possibly other types of cancer) is despicable.
Bugsey: You make a good point about alcohol, but saying thay cell-phones, tap water, and sugar are as dangerous as tobacco is a bit far-fetched. That said, I do not think that drinking alcohol around children should be tolerated by society either. I think the punishments for alcohol-related offenses are rediculously light. But I'd better not get into that right now- I can get on quite a soapbox when it comes to drunk driving and other alcohol-related offenses.

If their legal to sell and buy. How are you really able to say " You can smoke them but only here, here, here and over there." If smokeing is that dangerous then they should not be sold. Personally i would not smoke around a child.
