Windows 98 used a selection of keys, not individual keys for each copy in existence. Just do a google search for 98 serial numbers and it should install as genuine with any good number, no potentially corrupted 3rd party software needed. I would reccommend Linux at least as an upgrade however, as 98 doesnt have very many drivers or, well, anything! (it doesnt even have USB thumbdrive drivers). Ubuntu Linux or Xubuntu should work well and dont require serial numbers at all, and best of all, they're free from ubuntu.com and xubuntu.com Hope this helps!
