Do crash diets help? and if they do, how long does it take to really see some change in your weight? Is there any crash diet you can do for 7-10 days, that will help you loose about 5 pounds?

Do not--I repeat, DO NOT--go on a crash diet. That is the WORST thing you can do to lose weight, unfortunately. By depriving your body all of a sudden of nutrients and the like that it DOES need and that it's used to getting, it goes into survival mode--that is, it starts holding on to everything, ESPECIALLY your fat stores. When you lose weight that way, what you're really losing is water weight and muscle mass, and losing the latter is especially bad because muscle speeds up your metabolism. Trust me on this. Just don't do it. I've lost sixty pounds over the past year (I'm seventeen) and I struggled with that concept for a while too.

Diet. Cut out the sugary, processed, fatty foods. Get fruit. Protein is especially good because it takes a longer time to digest, meaning you won't be hungry for a while longer as opposed to consuming mass amounts of carbs. DRINK LOADS AND LOADS OF WATER. Water is proven to help you lose weight. Take your weight now, divide it in half, and that's how many you should drink in a day, if not a little more. It sucks at first, but to be honest, now it's all I drink and I'm addicted to it. DO NOT DRINK SODAS. High fructose corn syrup is so bad for you, and dark sodas especially are TERRIBLE for you. Eat more veggies. LEAN meats, white and fish-sorts especially.

Also, EXERCISE. Get up, move. Keep your metabolism going. Combine cardio and weight lifting. If you don't have a gym membership, get outside, run. Do squats, sit ups, push ups--the usual. Just MOVE, MOVE, MOVE.

Again, trust me. I do know what I'm talking about with this one. :)

Crash diets are not advisable or effective in the long term. If you reduce your calories with almost any sound diet you will lose quite a bit the first week, up to 5 pounds. Much of it may be water, and you can't expect the same results week after week. The only reasonable way to lose weight is to eat a balanced diet and control your portions. Lean protein, 5-9 servings of fruit and vegetables, 3+ servings of whole grains, and lots of water. If you lose weight over a long period of time, you have a chance of permanently changing your eating habits, that way you won't regain the weight. With a crash diet, you will immediately regain the weight, in fact usually more.

For one, stop calling it a diet. Diets fade, and fall fast. Plus, once you fall off the diet, it's hard to get back on.

It really is all about portion control. Watch your portions, you should never eat to the point of feeling full. If you eat slow, your mind will tell you when you are done.

Eat throughout the day. Have a light snack, such as some baby carrots, in between bigger meals. This will keep you metabolism up.

Good Luck!

simple...portion control....and take a nice mile-a-day run on the treadmill. Recently I did that to train for cross country for about 5 days or so and went down a size in pants
