I know that in some cultures, the left hand is considered unclean because it is used to clean after going to the toilet. Was this the case 2000 years ago in Jerusalem?

I understand that the right hand is considered a place of honor. My question is why the right hand and not the left hand?

Most likely it is because in many cultures, the right hand is considered the "active" hand, and the left hand is the "receptive" hand. The right hand is the one doing the work, per se. So because Jesus was doing God's work on Earth, he is considered his "right hand".

This is probably a result of the fact that the majority of people are right-handed. (No offense, lefties.. that just makes you guys special!)

It has been throughout history that the one seated to the right hand of the ruler of the land, has more honor than those sitting elsewhere. It is the seat of honor, and the position showing power over all others.

Consider the term, " Right hand man."

Could the left hand be reserved for the Holy Spirit?

I wouldn't think that it has to do with the belief that the left is "evil.". Man has different beliefs and superstitions, and today we can prove that right/left-handed people are no different in the capacity for holiness with the Bible.

The "left and right" arguments are of the flesh. The Trinity is composed of spirits.

Since people are predominantly right-handed, it has come to mean a cultural symbol for active power. There's nothing wrong with the left hand, or we'd all be one-handed.

Sitting at the right side was where an honored guest sat at the table - saying, in essence - this honored person is as important as me.

The people of that day would have understood this symbolism immediately.

It's a figure of speech.

God the Father is a spirit. He doesn't have a right (or a left) hand.

The figure of speech speaks of Jesus' authority not of his physical location.

Actually the right hand represents Power. Even in those days most people were right handed and so they understood that it represented "Power".

Well it's to do with hand washing, Jesus being a man could get the S**ts. The Holy Ghost however can only suffer from verbal diarrhoea.
