I didn't think calcium caused constipation. I know iron does though. You can buy iron pills that have a stool softener in them, but I've never seen calcium pills with stool softeners.

Unless you eating massive amounts of calcium, the constipation usually means that it was not absorbed by your body, it just passed through slowwwwwwwly. For your body to process i.e. use the calcium you also need magnesium, potassium and a few other minerals & vitamins.

If you have a medical reason to take it your Dr. should advise on the proper dosages & combinations. If you are self-diagnosing and just taking things to see what happens, stop it. Used wrong, vitamins & minerals can cause serious problems. Good Luck!

Calcium citrate is easier for your body to absorb.

However, if you get a calcium/magnesium combo that should work. Magnesium eases constipation because it relaxes the muscles. The ratio should be calcium 2: magnesium 1.

Suggested Calcium dose 1200mg. and 600mg magnesium.

Eat lots of dark-green leafy vegetables. You'll get lots of calcium. And you won't get constipation.

Here is some information about it:

And you have to remember to take vitamin D together with your calcium. You need vitamin D to absorb the calcium from your food.
