I've been mulling over a theory that someone shared with me recently, and it goes something like this. The disciples, like us, did not perform the signs and wonders that Jesus told them they could because they did not accept the truth of who they were--children of God. It's a conundrum. It's almost as if by trying to have faith, we defeat ourselves, since it shouldn't require any effort for us to be who we are.

Jesus was speaking to the man with the multitude that brought his child first to the disciples then to Jesus for healing. He did not call the disciples this. By rereading it you should concur. We are not even told the disciples/apostles were present at the time the man went to Jesus.
Mt 17:14 At the foot of the mountain, a large crowd was waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son. He has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”
Mt 17:17 Jesus replied, “You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” 18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy, and it left him. From that moment the boy was well.
I goofed!!! I was answering another question and confused the two. Between telephone calls and other things I gave a bum answer. I am sorry, but I will take the blame for messing up this question. God Bless Jesus was dissappointed with the disciples because they did not have faith to heal after they had been with Him for so long a time. about 2 years??

Because the disciples were idiots.
It sounds harsh, but even Jesus rebuked them constantly for getting his message wrong, or ignoring it altogether. And it doesn't look like things have changed much. This generation has ignored Christ's teachings, and instead has made a mockery of his teaching and sacrifice by saying that they are cleansed of their sins in his blood and that worshipping a man as GOD is an instant ticket to heaven, even though it violates GOD's first commandment.
It's so sad. Christ tried to hard to get the word of GOD into the hearts and minds of men and even unto his death, he failed miserably. If I met him tomorrow, I'd totally buy the man a drink for his troubles.

That is why when Jesus was carrying his own cross and Roman soldiers were treating him with severe cruelty all his disciples disappeared instead of fighting for Jesus and giving their lives to protect him.
Contrary to this in every battle against the athiest of Arabia, companions of Mohammad always kept him surrounded with their backs and their chests and took arrows of enemies on their bodies to protect Mohammad.
Mohammad means ''praised one''. His companions praised him during his life and Muslims are praising him every minute of the day in entire world. But they wordship only God and not Mohammad (Peace and Blessing of Allah be upon him).

Please read the Bible again.
Peter walked on water.
Every disciple had faith to walk away from their lives to follow Jesus.
They proclaimed Jesus Lord and savior.
Peter was so anointed Even his clothing healed people.
Please read the Bible over again.
Your heart is in the right place, your understanding is wrong.

They didn't need faith, they could see Jesus existed, but it's all only a story anyway.
