Part of the problem is that what we would consider "bashing" on our take of religion would be very different than what you would consider "bashing" of it. When we state our beliefs, it is often referred to as insulting to many theists because it usually contradicts their beliefs. When you state your beliefs, it is just the same. However, I believe that everyone should be just a little more tolerant of each other and not so sensitive. These are all just matters of opinion, after all.

It's politically correct to bash Christians and Jews, but no other religion. And you know why? Christians don't stand up for themselves or their religion the way, say...Muslims would. Did you see the SouthPark episode where they dissed Jesus the whole time and then made the statement that they were going to show an image of Mohammad in the next scene? Well, the screen just faded to black. Thats when I stopped watching that show...that kind of humor and dissing should be equal across the board and it's not. You can't say that certain religions & beliefs are sacred and can't be made fun of and others aren't. Just imagine what would happen in the Muslim community if SouthPark made fun of Mohammad the way they do of Jesus. (And they don't even claim that Mohammad is God.) There would be mass bombings throughout the US. People diss Christians because they know that Christians are going to "turn the other cheek" unlike most Muslims, atheists, etc. Frankly, who cares what those people say? To each his own...what's that expression? Oh, yeah,"Opinions are like*******, everybody has one."

"I'm not seeing Christians or "theists" for that matter bashing atheists nearly as much as they're getting slammed."
Well, you haven't been around here that long or have a condition that causes you to shut out certain pieces of information from your brain. Guason12, that's an agnostic- an atheist spends no time wondering if there is a god, as it's a silly thing to ponder.
Btw, it's impossible for atheists to bash god.

Well more and more people are waking up to the abuses of religion. 9/11 was a wake up call, I certainly now realise that as a free thinking agnostic artist, educator and lover of music that the Saudis and the Taliban would kill me straight off, no problem. What's this got to do with Christianity? Well if you look in the mirror fundamentalist Christians are just the same, intolerant, repressive, they have even used bombs at abortion clinics. It's only a matter of time before we get the same problems as Muslim countries have with their fundies. America was built on the foundations of the "Enlightenment" rationality and free speech. The NeoCons and Fundies would move to close that down if they could, they are already using post 9/11 security as an excuse to pass restrictive laws and unless fought it will only get worse.

The problem is not Christians as much as this quaint little North-American sect known as fundamentalists.
Every day all heretics are being told we are going straight to hell. There are a host of people out there who believe simply by not believing exactly what they believe, we deserve eternal torment.
Those same people will not admit to the possibility they are wrong in any way, but refuse to argue properly, simply citing scripture, as though they held the truth in their hand, and the way to interpret that truth given to the directly from God.
Those same people would believe that all Muslims, all Buddhists, all Hindus, and even Christians from different sects are damned for all eternity just because they are not as wonderfully enlightened as they are.
As if that wasn't enough, they also like to play scientist. Their ignorance of the most basic science is obvious even to the layman, and yet they insist on making fantastic claims they have no qualifications to make.
In short, they're wearing a huge "Kick me" sign at all times. It may not be the nicest thing to do, but they do make it tempting.

A real Christian is not supposed to "bash" anyone else no matter how much they may disagree or dislike them. HE says to love your enemies in addition to loving your friends and family. So I think a decrease in the number of Christians that "bash" others, shows an improvement in Christianity. It shows more Christians are "getting it".

That is because an atheist's faith lies in bashing of God and believers of God, whereas the faith of a believer is on God and the latter does not have to bash anybody.

Thomas Jefferson said
" Ridicule is the only weapon against unintelligible propositions."
I mean when people blindly follow and believe in something which can so clearly be disproven over and over and over agian what else are we supposed to do. Ask any Atheist here and they will tell you that we have tried to educate. It doesn't work, No matter what evidence we show, some theist's still think it's the work of the devil.

Well? First: It's impossible for an atheist to bash a deity or deities. I'll let you figure it out.
Second: I never bash specific theistic religious devotees. I don't take crap from fundamentalists, though.

People are becoming fed up with religion, largely due to deplorable acts. 9/11, The Catholic Church Sex Scandal, Radicals with their threat of "Convert or Die". You expect people to believe that a God watches over everything that religion does? If the world religions don't get their act together, they will eventually put themselves out of business.
