If there is a god it would be a force so enigmatic that no human could possibly comprehend. So I guarantee you that now godlike energy would be human enough to "giggle" or to care who wins a sports game or anything else as trivial. People try to impose their characteristics and their flawed belief systems onto some force they know nothing about.

This is no joke at all. God does field such prayers from "conflicting" sources. Part of why He is God is that He has a plan to use losing and winning in the lives of people for His ultimate purposes. God is not a sports fan in the way we think of sports fans, but He does care what happens in an athletic contest as He cares about what is happening in a distressed family, community or country. He is infinite and is not forced to set priorities on His time as we must.

Why would God even care who wins a game?

Hey, so either way a prayer is answered, right?

I like it when christians say that god answers their prayers on a 'yes, no, maybe later' basis. Basically god gets credit regardless of what happens - May as well pray to an egg carton.

God responds to the game of life (human life), and not to the game of basketball.

Even if you are an atheist, you need to grow up!

So, if one of these sees it as stupid (because of your story) and does not pray, does the other get an advantage? Anyone who praises a deity for success and does not blame said deity for failure is hypocritical.

I would hope that any deity would have better things to do than sit around watching basketball games.
