They are a part of who I am. I value their words and that is way they are my contacts.

some do, generally people that don't agree with you politically insult you without getting tossed, but that doesn't really bother me now, it used to. Also there gets to be some interesting Atheist/Christian fights. Some of the ideas that I have read really throw a new light on things. Once in a blue moon I have an epiphany. I think it's great but I am seriously concerned about Yahoo (the company) giving Communist China info on a dissenter, if it's true it's pretty sickening.

Rebekkah, that depends on what you mean by influence. If by that do you mean do you let others determine how you view things in the world? Then NO, they play some degree of a role in that but THEY in and of themselves do NOT determine how I feel about anything. I am a strong willed person, know my mind, know what I like and what I dislike and I follow my OWN convictions and do NOT follow the convictions of someone else, simply because they are my friends.

My contacts don't influence me. I have a firm foundation for my belief system and at my age I'm not easily swayed. I like checking out what my contacts are answering. It's a way to get to know a few of the people that you frequently find yourself communicating. I find that when you jump around numerous categories like I do, you find yourself running up-against some real live wires.

I like to make up my own mind about things. I read. I listen. I debate. I take into consideration of another point of view. But I also consider the source.
I have my own ideas about religions which, after much pondering, was not influenced by my contacts but by theologians and scholars. Those who have made a career of thinking and writing about these issues. I prefer secular scholars as they do not have an agenda, such as trying to convert me to their way of thinking. They present the facts and it's up to me as to how much I agree or disagree with.
I believe my contacts to be good people, but anyone's understanding of things is limited by their circumstances. Usually, that is. Not always. There are many intelligent people here and I respect them a great deal, but if they tried ot influence me into believing a specific piece of dogma, I would pull the plug on that relationship.
Benjamin Franklin once said: "To follow by faith alone is to follow blindly."
I agree.

The only way they influence me is to look at additional questions.

Perhaps, they sometimes give me a different prespective, or offer clarification, unity and support. But they have not changed my basic thinking. I thought the point of a contact was to show that we have a common bond...........

Nope. This is a purely social group for me that I use as relaxation and to teach when I see things that don't seem right or aren't real!
