I don't know what they are called, but those things on the sides of the streets?
If I mail a letter by putting it there, how long would it take to reach the person?

Check the pick up time when you drop the letter. It is the same as if you mail it from your home, except if you miss this days pick up you will have to wait until the pick up tomorrow, that will delay it by 1 day.

it takes exactly the same amount of time as if you left it in your mailbox or at the post office; those blue mailboxes should have collection times on them (there is usually more than one) which is when the mail is picked up and taken back to the post office, at which time it is processed like usual, so anywhere from 2 to 5 or more days, depending where you live and where the letter is going.

Well on the box there should be a pickup time. This is when they empty the box. It then goes to a local sorting location. Usually a 12 hr process. then to the distribution location. another 12 hrs. then to the dispatch location where it is sorted and sent to the city of destination. This could be 2 to 48 hrs depending on how far away it is. Then it is delivered the next day. In short 1 to 7 days.
