First, Barbie is a toy of fantasy. Parents that do not teach this first blame the toy for their own failure as parents and educators. I'm sick of ignorant arguments that Barbie causes eating disorders and self esteem problems. Blame the real reasons. The person is already not of mental stability. The parents or guardian needs to stress the fact that it is only a toy of fantasy and not reality. Point out that it is only 11 1/2 inches high; does not eat; or uses the bathroom. Ask the child would they want to be like Barbie in reality. Give the child a strong foundation of knowing reality from fantasy. Barbie can be used to teach the child to be genuine. Barbie does not try to be Midge, Stacy, Skipper, or Kelly. Barbie is Barbie. What has made the doll being so successful? It has been being herself. Trying to be something other than you really are will lead to bad consequences. My answer to this question is yes.

To me, this is a simple question to answer. Of course I would. I have played with Barbie for many years and learned a great deal. I learned how to match my clothes and shoes. But more importantly I had to have a huge imagination. I had only the doll and could not afford the accessories like furniture. I had to think of everyday items to make things for my Barbie. For instance, I took a kleenex box and made her a bed by placing a washcloth over it as a bedspread. I made lamps out of spools of thread and wall paper out of paper towels. I had to make most of her clothes using scraps of fabric. This has become very useful in my career. I would suggest every little girl have a Barbie. They are educational and create an imagination... something that one must have to succeed in our crazy world!

Yes, definitely.
Although they do portray a very narrow view of what a girl should look like, at the same time they promote being a girl.
i think that it is important for little girls to have something to look up to.i don't mean for this to be taken the wrong way-that they have to look up to being extremely thin and perfect. However, when i played with barbies i felt like i expanded my creativity, and was able to look up to just being a girl.i think that i want my own children to have that experience.
little girls should not be punished by a superficial society.

Of course! :)
Barbie dolls are no different than any other toy -- they are the classic all-American toy! :)
My daughters love them and they have wholesome, imaginative play for hours.... :)
It is much better than parking them in front of a television, like some parents do!
If you take away dolls, then WHAT is LEFT for a child to play with .... ??

no i dont let my daughers play with barbies, bratz anything like that. barbie dolls have perfect hips and perfect sized breasts and this distorts girls perception of beauty from a young age. girls are becoming to concerned about the way the look too early and they are also becoming more skanky. the slogan for bratz dolls is "dont theorize, accessorize" thats absolutely disgusting. i read of the back of a barbie doll box and it said "it doesn't matter how we play the game it matters how we look for the boys." it is making girls grow up too quickly and is turning them skanky
