Has anyone ever done this successfully? If so, how? If you tried to do this unsuccessfully, why did you fail?

Details: He is manager, I would be working directly for him. Sales position. Possibly lucrative. I like him a lot, but have only know him as a friend so far. Currently we are not co-workers, only friends. I feel like I could do it, but I am just not sure if it is possible to keep the personal and professional lives separate. I really would like to because I think I would be successful in the position, but I don't want to ruin the friendship either. What could I do to take the job and try to make sure the friendship lasts, or is not affected?

My advice to you is to not work for your friend. No matter how good the job may be. But I also here other people that have worked together and have been friends for ever. The difference is that, as long as, you and your friend agree to work your 9-5 or whatever your schedule may be, and keep your personal business for after work hours.

i really think you have to spell things out a bit differently. i worked for a friend who was my boss. it was a bit difficult at first because he could tell me what to do and then 2 hours later we were going out for a beer.
