You dont get rid of depression but you can control it depending on its severity through medications, exercise I find is helpful also forcing yourself to do things when its the last thing you want to do is maybe go for a walk or clean the house occupying yourself physically not mentally works but you really should seek support from a doctor or others who have overcome the negative effects of depression it helps to not feel so alone.
There is not pat answer other then trying different activities and taking it one day at a time sometimes a moment at a time and try not to dwell in the negative which is so easy to do when your down.
also it will take time to sort out why your depressed so go easy on yourself "inch by inch its a cinch, Yard by yard it is hard". hope you feel well soon :)

See your doctor and describe your feelings. You may just be feeling down. Clinical depression is somewhat different and don't worry about your friends knowing about it - they just think you'r "having one of those days". Clinical depression requires medication perhaps even a psychologist or psychiatrist. Feeling 'down' can last for days or weeks even to crying jags and then for whatever reason it's over. A particular time of year or remembrance can trigger this one. Clinical depression is an imbalance and needs medical attention and can take a very long time to recover. The only people who will know is yourself & your doctors - unless you tell them. Good luck it can be a short or long journey but take time to be kind to yourself, you'r worth it and you only have one life to live. Make it the best.

A good book can put you back on track, but if you are depressed you need to talk to someone. Sharing is the best cure if you chose carefully.

This book was helpful for me a couple of years ago:

Ten Days to Self-Esteem Ten Days to Self-Esteem by David D. Burns (Paperback - Mar 17, 1999)

It has its ups and downs but overall it gets the reader thinking out of the box.

Best wishes

Regular exercise stimulates your "feel good" endorphins. There are also some over the counter herbal remedies such as St. John's Wart that are supposed to help. The best thing is to evaluate your life and figure out what is the source of your problems and what you can do to change it. Counseling is your best option for that, getting your troubles off of your chest and getting the advise of a professional. Also a good diet full of all the vitamins your body needs.

Get more exercise. Run 3 miles a day, 6 days per week. Eat healthy foods, including green vegetables. Avoid salty foods. Get enough rest. Focus on work or school, and relationships.

choose to be happy. focus on what you have, not what you do not have. be grateful for what you have and you do have alot.
most likely you can walk, and move your fingers, you can hear.
you most likely sleep in a warm bed every night after eating a good meal. need i go on.
choose to be happy. i know it is not easy, but just focus on happy , positive thoughts and do not think of negative things.
in life you generally get what you focus on. if you focus on feeling negative and sad, that is what you will get . think happy thoughts and people will want to be around you.
so choose you need to choose.
