It's pretty common, actually. I was well on my way there myself, but I put a smart to it as soon as I realized it was happening. I was 155 almost my entire life. Then within THREE years I went up to 190, and was still gaining. A little more exercise and a change of diet, and I'm on my way back down. I suggest having a talk with your doctor about this right away. There could be a medical cause for your problem, and if not, he can recommend a safe and practical regimen for getting rid of the weight. Good luck!

You don't say how old you are, but you may have a thyroid condition. This can slow your metabolism and cause other symptoms such as lack of energy, hair loss, memory loss, as well as weight gain. You might want to ask your doctor to order a simple blood test (TSH) to determine if your levels are normal. A high reading means your thyroid is under active. This is called hypothyroidism. A normal reading is about 4.5 - 6.0. Any reading higher than this can signal an under active thyroid. You may be prescribed medication that you will take daily. Blood tests are generally done every 6 months to a year to check the status of your thyroid and see if the medication dose is correct. Get it checked out. Good luck.

This averages out to about a 1 pound gain every month, and shows how it can really sneak up on you. Just by having an extra 150 or so calories a day with no change in activity level, it is easy to gain. For example, that is one can of soda.

185 to 240 in 7 months. I wish I had anticipated the stretch marks on my stomach. It looks like angry demons with long jagged nails were trying to pull me under. Lol
