My friend claims that he is in the reserves but because of his tatoos he has gotten since discharged it makes him ineligible to serve on active duty and says he has to join the army to enlist in active duty. Is this a viable story?

Your friend is an idiot. There is more to the story than he is telling you.

In the reserves and discharged? We have a failure to co muu nii kate.

If he is in the active reserves his 1st Sgt would likely have had something to say about a tattoo.

If he is in the IRR he is still subject to the UCMJ so if activated I will guess he could have a problem if he had been ordered to not get a tattoo during this time.

There is an 8 year obligation. After whatever time you spend active you do not receive the Discharge until that 8 years has expired. If he has a Discharge he is free to do whatever he wants.

The Marines and Army have different opinions on tattoos. The Marines have recognized people with tattoos do not present the image they wish to project. They have changed to "The Few, The Proud" by adding the unwritten "The Attitude Free". No one has to like it, but they get to set their own standards.

it doesn't seem viable. Reserves are there to be put "on call" to go into Active Duty if necessary. However, I'm not an expert.
