Depends on the situation, but not because this Jesus fellow preached it.

thats a great question. i could only pray that i would have the courage to.

it would all depend on how one would judge the life and death situation they are confronted with. yes, i do believe more people than not will risk their life for a stranger. people all over the world a doing it as jobs even eg policemen, firemen, soldiers etc
however laying down ones life is a completely different ball game. Offering ones life so another may live is what Jesus did except Jesus did it to save all mens lives.

there is a guy that comes to mind though... maximilian kolbe

I would like to think that I would, but unless I was in the situation I do not know what I would do.

I did help drag someone out of a burning tent once, I was injured doing it, but never felt as though my life was in jeopardy.

If I had time to think or choose, I probably crawl up into a fetus position and cry like a baby - making me incapable of making a desicion. I would feel quite awful with any decision I made. (Assuming the decision is one of us must die)

He actually said, "for your friends," not "for a stranger."

John 15:13: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

If it were for the greater good, yes. My own life is worth little to nothing compared to the lives of many.

Jesus does not ask us to lay down our lives for a stranger. He already did that for those who love him.

Does this mean going into a burning building for someone? Yes!

To be completely honest... I wouldn't know until that moment came. I'd like to think I would be willing to.
