ok. Im 17 right now, turn 18 in July. I need a job, i had a job in my cousin restaurant as a cashier but stopped working when i was 16 because of school. Is there any job for me that I can get $9 or $10 an hour, if i start?

Retail does not pay much, and if you work someplace like Gap, etc...you probably have to wear their clothes, which comes out of your pocket. Try looking for data entry/office type jobs. Those will pay higher. Check your paper/online, but also try going through a placement agency like Randstad or Dorothy Johnson. You will pay nothing for the placement (your prospective employer will) and will have greater access to some jobs that might not be advertised.

I think bank tellers are also paid in the $9-$10 range, depending on where you live. If you're interested in banking, that's a great position to start at as a lot of banks seem to promote from within.

However, as you lack experience (did you work summers at all?) realize that will put you at a disadvantage. Just keep trying. You might have to work a lower-paying job - like retail - until you gain experience.

Chances are, you're not going to get a high paying job right out of high school. If you want to rake in the big bucks, you're going to have to go to school and major in something that leads to a high-salaried profession. A few examples of such are engineering, law, medicine, and dentistry.

Now, this is not to say that it's impossible to earn a high income at a young age. Some people have done it, but their circumstances are highly exceptional. So for now, I think you should go to school and get a part time job in retail or maybe even a campus job---anything that will accommodate school.

If you want, you could probably get a factory job. Those sometimes pay fairly well. However, it may be hard to go to school with such a job, unless you shoot for an online degree.

Good luck.

I know of clerical positions either full or part time for that pay and possibly more. Keep an eye out in your area for city or county jobs. It's the best way to go. Some areas have temporary positions that can become permanent if they like your work and have an opening.

$9/$10 per hour is not a high paying job. Go to college.

Retail is NOT high paying to whoever said that.

Your not going to find somthing that much starting out.

You need to make your way up.

If it was that simple. There wouldnt be so many people living on the streets because they cant afford a home on min wage. Which is about $6 average.

Work as a waitress in a restaraunt such as Red Lobster, or Olive Garden. You get paid a base rate then get tips.

Why do you people think you can just get a job and start at the top? Do any of you have any idea how the "higher paid" employees got that way? Experience!! and time on the job..
