Deist=believes in a god, but no religion
Theist=believes in a religion
Atheist= (anti)-theism or no belief in religion or God
Agnostic=not sure which is right (in the US, often a cop-out for atheist, because it doesn't sound so harsh)

They would be considered a Deist. They believe in something like a higher power but do not believe that it/he/she involves itself with this world. Many of our founding fathers and many great scientists felt that way.
