we are leaving 10/24/08 to stay in tuscany before the cruise

Sign up for Meet and Mingle and Roll Call BOARDS.
Go to Carnival and then your ship. YOu will find a thread that has people going on your cruise. You will meet lots of people before you even board ship.

Try CruiseCritic.com, "Boards" - they have "Roll Call" boards for specific sailings [I think you have to register to see that board]. Carnival often does have "Friends of Dorothy" meetings on board. There is also a special message board that you might be interested in [look under "Special Interest" board].
