I want to spend around $40 dollars and get something like a 5 pack or sampler or something like that. Can someone please give me some suggestions. I know $40 isn't a whole lot, but it is the best i can do. Is it possible to get some good quality cigars for $40. And like I said, this person knows his cigars, so i need to get something pretty solid. All suggestions/links/help is appreciated.

Personally, I'm partial to Cohiba, Macanudo, and Helix.
The Helix 550 are very good and reasonable, as are most ofthe Macanudo offerings.
Check out http://www.famous-smoke.com/ if you don't have a good shop near you.

The choice is simple, Davidoff. They have a number of samplers for under $50, unfortunately you only get 3 or 4 cigars depending on ring size and length. Figure 5-6" in length and 45min ring size.
By the way, Cuban cigars are not the best and are way overpriced.

Some of the most coveted cigars currently in the market are Ashton VSG (virgin sun grown), Fuente has a series of cigars that are named after peices of literature (short story, novel, essay, Hemingway, etc), and Fuente Fuente Opus X are without a doubt gift cigars since the least I have ever seen the smallest one is $25 and they can cost up to $60. The Opus series is limited to the (or at least was a couple of years ago) to 75,000 cigars produced a year.

Cuban cigars are NOT the best, they are highly overrated due to the embargo. There are good one for sure, but also quite a few bad ones. Sorry, for best value you go elsewhere.

Assuming you live in the US and don't have access to Cubans, go for any Padron. To make an impression choose a sampler of Padron 1964 anniversary or even the pricier 1926 series.
They are Nicaraguans and by and large the best cigar company

If you can get to a quality smoke shop, one whose main product is cigars not cigarettes, They can help you chose some good sticks with in your budget. Be sure to tell them how much you want to spend. This will save a lot of time.
I would suggest 2 Fuentes 8-5-8's one maduro and one natural wrappers, a quinterro, and maybe a punch Rothschild in natural and maduro wrappers. Depending on where you live these should cost between 40 and 50 dollars.

When I smoked I bought most of mine from Thompson Cigar Co. They had pretty good prices on name-brand sampler packs. Have a look:

If you can, snag a wrapper from one he's already had and you know he likes and take it to the cigar shop. They should be able to give you suggestions for similar ones.
