I'm just curious about what happens when you buy something online. For example a computer. When they deliver it, do they schedule a day and time, it'll be delivered to your door? Or do they just leave it in front of your door? Because, if they just leave a computer in front of your door, people will just take it while they walk by.
Thanks.

It depends on the shipper used by the place you bought something from. Some leave things on your doorstep. Some actually ring your doorbell to let you know something has been delivered, and others require a signiture, so you have to answer the door in order to receive the item.
Many times when you order something, the seller will give you options of how you want it shipped. The lease expensive is usually the USPS.

If it is a large expensive item, like a computer, they usually leave a notice on your door if you're not home. The note says what time they will come the next day, or you can go pick it up at the local distribution center (or post office, if it's US Mail).

You can request on your online order form how you want it to be delivered. You can ask them to leave you a package slip, and you can go pick it up. Usually, if the item is small, or worth less than $100, they will leave it in the mailbox or on the step. I usually ask them to leave it in the back yard inside the gate. If you live in an apartment, they will leave it at the office.

My laptop was delivered through DHL. Dell required a signature for it. So basically they try to give it to you. If you aren't there they leave a slip notifying you that they are trying to deliver it to you. They then give you options, you can sign it over and have it left on your doorstep, you can ask them to try again the next day, or you can go pick it up from their mailing facility!

Yeah usually, but I've never ordered something THAT expensive. I would think you would have to sign for it, and if you're not home, they'll leave a note on your door and then you would have to go to the post office and pick it up.

Depending on what you purchase, the delivery person might not leave the package without your signature -- for instance, a computer like you mention.
You will then have a notice on your door indicating that a delivery was attempted and it will let you know where you can pickup the package yourself.

it depends. Sometimes items are signature required these items could be TV's, wine, cigars, apliances. Clothing and other small items ar generally just left at the door. You generally get to track your order via a tracking number and can call your carrier (fed ex, ups, dhl, etc) and request signature required. if you can not be home you can pick at the nearest drop depot for your carrier.

usually they'll put it behind bushes and leave you a note telling you it's there. if you're uncomfortable with that you could probably write them a note on the front door telling them to leave it in the back.
or they won't drop it off at all and give you a letter saying you can pick it up at a post office.

if it's something of low value they will leave it by your door, if it's something more expensive they will leave a note on your door saying they will try again the next day, or you can go and pick it up at the company if you miss the delivery.

I think sometimes they deliver it at your local post office, I am not sure as I have never bought online before either.
