If you didn't show up to work and never called, what would you say the following day when going into work? The job is a shift job, the schedule was 5am to 1pm that day. No kids or wives to use as an excuse either.

Family emergency. You don't need to tell them what it is. If they ask, say it's personal.

You were laid up in the hospital. You got into a car accident. I don't know. Either way, I don't think there is ANYTHING that you can say to excuse not calling in. At some point in time you could have called, unless you were in a coma or something. If that were the case then you wouldn't have came in the next day.

You could also tell them the truth and risk getting fired. Either way, I think you're in bad shape. You could maybe tell them you have a drug problem and need to be admitted into rehab. Maybe they'll feel sorry and spare you the job. But you never get away with lying. It'll catch up with you one way or another.

Why couldn't you call in? I've thought about doing that a million times but I don't have the balls. And if I DID do it...I would be too embarrassed to even go to work the next day...I just wouldn't know what to say and I'd be all nervous. Just make sure you call in when you are not going to be there no matter what it takes and then you won't have to worry about what to say...you could just say you were sick. Hey, might as well just quit now!

I am 61 years old and I can't think of a legitimate reason.
Because you could have called SOMETIME between the time you were scheduled to go in and the time that you are going in to tell them why you weren't there

Tell your Boss you were at an Interview for another job. If He fires you- you were probably about to lose it ANYWAY because of the lame excuses you were giving about missing work!

Drop to your knees and kiss whatever your lips are near that belong to your boss. At worst you should be given a warning and docked a day's pay. Our company had the right to fire you after 3 days, or if this became a habit.

There is no excuse for not calling in. The only acceptable one would be if you had died.

There is none...how could you not at least call? You would deserve to lose that job.

say that somebody in your family died (make sure you say someone who is dead) and you were shocked and was busy getting things sorted out with relitives and that calling in was the last thing on your mind.
