The original Revelation was for the Jewish Diaspora in 69 AD, so it's a bit older than your grandmother. I'm sure that Europeans during the plague in the mid-14th century surely thought it was the end times watching 1/3 of the population die. Of course in terrible times everyone wants to feel that end times are near. I feel that we are not to focus on end times, but rather live our lives as though this is the last day (without getting radical about it). Returns to the truth that the personal relationship with God is what's the most important.

PS Jesus did return in that time, during the resurrection. Don't throw out Bible verses without some contemplation, cross-referencing, and general common sense (response to one of the "answers."

We don't know when it'll happen, but The Lord Jesus gave us signs to watch for.lately (if you study Bible prophecy) you'll notice the snowballing of foretold events. Just read The Bible and watch the knews and you'll begin to realize what I mean. Online research wouldn't hurt either!

Cosmologically speaking, 500 yrs, even 2000, even the entire length of existance of humanity up to this point, is a very, very short amount of time.

When the sun blows up, or a black hole comes they will all start shouting it is the end, yet it will be completely different than what the bible says, yet they will say it
