i would probably consider the 20 gb ps3 because you will use it more then a slim ps2
Slim Ps2
-Plays dvds
-Plays ps1 ans ps2 games
-no video or music support
-less ps2 games being made
20 GB ps3
-Plays Dvd, Blu ray
-Plays Ps1, Ps2 and ps3 games
-Videos, Music, Photos
-Online internet browser
-More Ps3 games being made then ps3
-Not as portable as ps2
There is even more information
You can look it up on google

Yes, the 20GB PS3 is pretty good.
The only thing that the 20GB PS3 doesn't have is built in WiFi, and the digital camera flash card slots. But the 20GB PS3 only has 2 USB ports.
One reason why the 20GB PS3 is a good PS3 to get is because it has full backward compatibility with both PS1 and PS2 games just like the 60GB PS3 because it has the Emotion Engine chip.
But I do recommend buying a bigger hard drive for the 20GB PS3 if you buy one because when you first get it, about 5 GB of space will already be used up because the Operating System uses up that space. The bigger hard drives aren't expensive at all. You could get a brand new 100GB hard drive for about $79- $99, and a refurbished one would maybe cost $60 bucks maybe.

Compared to the other PS3's its kinda bad, but if you wanna use it as a console, and a blu-ray player, its worth the price. You don't get wifi, memory card reader and only 20gb of Hard Drive, but you do get PS2 B/C (Backwards Compatibility) So if you don't plan on playing online, or you have a ethernet cable that you can run to it, to get you online... its a great deal especially as a blu-ray disk player, which can cost hundreds more.
I'm not very informed on the PS2, so I cant offer any advice there...
I have a 80gb PS3 and I am very happy with it, the HD is very nice, more and more games are coming making it impossible to put the controller down, (Call of Duty 4 is a great one) and its a way better deal overall compared to the 360
Good luck, hope I helped.

I would go with the PS3. It is a little known fact, but you can actually upgrade the hard drives in the PS3 because they use a normal laptop hard drive. That means you could upgrade it to whatever you want. Also the 20gb PS3 can play PS2 games; however, some may not play correctly or at all, it just depends on the game.

From memory the 20GB version was the cheapest because
1. It has not wireless network capabilities
2. Its only got a 20GB Hard drive
3. It has no flash card/memory stick ports
It also did not have the chrome trimming
It's being phased out and it not manufactured anymore.
If you had to pick either a slim PS2 or a 20GB PS3, get the PS3.

despite in case you like a 20GB, you shouldnt get it by means of fact that's the very 1st version made by using Sony. which skill, processor is the oldest version. and you may no longer locate it anymore everywhere different than on ebay. you may only get them 2d hand which for confident would be a volatile investment. In PS3, video games are put in on the device. IUnlike in PS2, you play promptly on DVD by using the RAM.that's why you like memory. And so as which you have extra memory to acquire demo video games in the previous paying for them. PS3 additionally performs MP3s, movies and photograph slideshows which you additionally can save on the tensepersistent.

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
