First, get into close enough proximity to the person that you can have a conversation with them. That means that you should sit within a few chairs of the person.

Second, simply introduce yourself. "Hi, I'm Bob, what's your name? Great to meet you."

You should be able to get a conversation going about topics having to do with the class.
"So, what do you think about this class? Have you studied biology before? When do you graduate?"

You can also ask questions about the person to get to know him/her better.
"Do you live around here? Where did you come from? Do you like surfing?"

You can ask the person to do some activity with you, or maybe have a study group.

People love talking about themselves, so if you ask them questions that allow them to share their lives, they will think you're an amazing conversationalist.

I'm sorry you're lonely. I hope things look up for you soon.

wow! that is terrible but I don't know what to say. I spend most of my time trying to stay away from the ones in college.
Last thing I want is a bunch of friends in here.
Can't you just concentrate of your grades, suck it up until your out of school get a really good job and have lots of chicks.
Money is very sexy.
