Yes they fought in the amateurs but in response to Tommy Hearns being young, so was Aaron Pryor! Pryor did not have an age advantage. In fact, the fight took place not long before both fighters turned pro. And four years later in 1980, they both became champs on the same night. Tommy Hearns beat Pipino Cuevas in Detroit and Aaron Pryor beat Antonio Cervantes in Cincinnati. Both shows were promoted by Muhammad Ali sports.

Yes, it was the finals of the 1976 National Golden Gloves at the 132 lb limit. Pryor floored him and broke his nose, and won something like 3-2. However, remember that Hearns wasn't the fighter who we came to know, he only had like 11 knockouts in 155 fights as an amateur.
