does the protestant religion believe in predestination?

Some Protestant believe that God has chosen some out of the human race to be saved through the finished work of Christ, thus inheriting eternal life. Others of the same human race are not chosen to eternal life and therefore foreordained to everlasting punishment. In other words, God sovereignty ordains the eternal destiny of every human being—the lost as well as the saved.

All Protestant believe in Sola Scripture ("Scripture alone"), i.e the Bible alone is intended by God to be the source of doctrinal truth (2 Tim. 3:16).

All Protestant believe in Sola fide ("faith alone"), i.e. we are saved by faith alone by trusting in Christ alone.

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren." Romans 8:29

2 Peter 3:9

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (KJV)

Luke 13:3 (Jesus speaking)"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

We know that Scripture interprets Scripture. If we WERE predestined (for either Heaven or hell), would it make any sense that Jesus, Himself would preach repentance unto the people? Or that the Lord is not willing that ANY should perish? Both positions, ie calvinism and armenianism are EQUALLY wrong! You must take the Bible as a WHOLE. The GOSPEL is that the Holy Spirit calls sinners to repentance, and once He's done this, the sinner has a responsibility to RESPOND to the Holy Spirit. He DOES have free will, and CAN refuse God's free Gift of Salvation. This is different, however, from what armenianism teaches; as they believe it's ALL up to free will leaving out the drawing of God. A sinner cannot get saved whenever he decides to; but can only get saved when God is Divinely at work in his heart. I hope this helps.

Based on my ownpersonal opinion...No. To be predestined means that no matter what you choose to do, your future is already written. I do not believe that to be the case and have not read or heard anything to indicate otherwise.

If predestination were a fact, then it wouldnt matter what we did...whether we sinned or not...whether we believed or not...it would have all been made up for us long ago. I believe that the scriptures that talk about God knowing us etc. means that because he knows our hearts, he knows which direction we are taking. It is like you knowing someone...and because you know them so well, you can almost guess what they will say or do in any given situation.

There are many denominations that comprise Protestants. Some believe in predestination, others do not. You would have to research each denomination's beliefs, as one is not always indicative of the whole.

Yes, many do, including myself. Here is the logic behind it:

God is omnipotent (all powerful) and omnipresent (everywhere at once). Therefeore, he hasunlimited power and NOTHING is impossible to him. In turn, since he is all powerful, he has the power to see into the future and know what is going to happen, hence "predestination".

Also, evidence of this is includes in the bible, for example God knows everything that is going to happen in the end times, which he included in the book of Revelations.

Predestination does not exclude free will.
