The way you phrased your question is confusing - are you considering burgundy tile or burgundy paint? Either one would look good. I love darker colored kitchens - they look elegant & classy, like you're in a coffee shop or nice nightclub/restaurant.
Check out some of these kitchen makeovers that HGTV did for some ideas:

Burgundy would make the kitchen seem even smaller.
For my kitchen to make it seem bright and also to compliment my oak cupboards, I painted it a pale yellow the same shade as the golden highlights in the oak.
Yellow always seems to make a kitchen look brighter and since you do still spend a lot of time in there between cooking and cleaning, you want a bright cheerful room. If you are really fond of burgundy, you could always go with a pale pink and give it burgundy accents.

Ususally, walk through [ galley ] kitchens are pretty small, and burgundy will make it look even smaller; especially with 'darkish' cabinets.
Suggest using a light tan, beige, or light gray for the flooring.
Then add the color in the walls - usually the 'cook's fav color' in a light shade:
rose
peach or coral
banana or light lemon
mint or leaf green
aqua or sky blue
lavender
white or ivory
Then repeat the colors in a print for the curtains /valences, and table linens - placemats, cloth, or centerpiece.

Are you tiling the floor a burgundy?
I think you should do paint it a medium to slightly dark blue. If the cabinets are the color I'm thinking they are, blue will look really nice with them. It will also look really nice with a reddish floor.

you need to no longer paint timber cabinets. Its a disgrace to hide the colour of the organic timber. That being pronounced, if the unique cabinets have been stained, they could be sanded down, and re-finished in a organic state (sparkling varnish) or stained a lighter colour. finding on the age of the cabinets, they could be all timber, in assessment to greater moderen cabinets that are a melamine indoors, with a timber veneer exterior. if that's the case, be careful while sanding the veneer, as that's extremely skinny. (each so often a million/sixty fourth to a million/thirty second thick). in the event that they are all timber, sanding is high quality, and it will show you how to take dings and dents out of the timber, making the cabinets look lots greater desirable.

never paint a kitchen any colors that are not found in food.
for example, bright blue would not work because no food is bright blue (blueberries don't count).
don't opt for bright reds, oranges, yellow, purple, etc.
your kitchen is more suitable for a tuscan theme.
you want a contrast between the maple and the wall, so yes, burgundy would be an excellent choice. I would also suggest a maroon or a dark tan.
if you are more adventurous, maybe an olive green or salmon color would work well.
:)

A small room looks even smaller with dark colors.
I may be biased with my big kitchen, but it is the heart of my home, and I have always made it happy, cheerful colors.
It is bright canary yellow right now!
