People in America are scared of atheism. We hear the Golden compass was written by an atheist and get really nervous. So what are your thoughts on Atheism and the new risky movie, the Golden Compass?

Well I am catholic and we were talking about it in theology class today and i think that movie is ok because catholics make movies about their beliefs why can't atheists? But apparently catholic schools are sending letters home to parents warning them not to let their children see this movie. I think it is stupid even though I am catholic. Some people think atheists are from the devil, but my sister was catholic and turned atheist and she is still the same person and not from the devil. lol. i just wanted to see what you all thought about this.

Why do people always assume that we fear that with which we disagree?
I don't like broccoli, but I'm not afraid of it.

The people who are against the golden compass haven't read it. The ones who do find it to be like any other fantasy book. I don't see why there is such an uproar over this and there was no problems when The Chronicles of Narnia came out. Atheist should have protested that movie if christians are going to protest the golden compass the way they are.
If people read the books they might have a better understanding of them.

Go see the movie.Enjoy it if its good If you have young kids explain to the you can not kill God or what ever the movie conveys . Most of the movies are either Anti Christian , Anti God , Anti Christ , Anti Family you get the picture.
If people would get off their butts and talk the time to talk to there kids instead of letting them get there ideas of how to live and what to believe from mainstream T.V. and movies their children would have a strong foundation and movies like this would not shake them

I'm an atheist, and I think that people need to realize that not everyone has the same beliefs, and that your words cannot change them. The movie may be risky, but it's simply the writer's way of showing his imagination.

Well... I believe in God but I am not scared of atheists or atheism. I'm not scared of the movie or the books. They are works of fiction. I've never read the books, but I may see the movie because it looks interesting, it's gotten good reviews, and yes, because of the controversy.

I have never read the book, but the movie looks a little like the Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe... A parallel world were the battle between good and evil is a actual battle.

Well the BOOK was really good. So, since none of you read, I guess seeing a movie should really not be too scary for you.

i think the whole issue is over-hyped. im Christian and i have no interest in the movie, it was created by worldly people for worldly people. if Christians have a problem with it then we shouldnt watch it, simple as that.
