Wait until you are 18 and join the military. You can be allowed in combat if qualified and courageous in battle.

yes, you are too young. You need to be 18 to join the military (any branch). Women are not allowed in combat, but except for being on the frontlines, they have hundreds of other 'jobs' for everyone to do. But you need to have a high school diploma too. The military needs skilled people, and at age 13, you're not quite there yet.
And if there's a problem at home (abuse), you are old enough to talk to a counselor at school. Parents can be overbearing, but being in the military is tough too. I was in both the Navy and Marine Corps, so my kids grew up in a strict environment, but because I was a single mom, I had to have things in order for us to survive. All 3 of my kids graduated HS and the youngest is in college (the other two have college degrees too). Again, if there is abuse in the house, contact someone in school you trust to talk with!!

hey. i'm 18 and i just joined the Marines. no, there are no loopholes unless you lied about your age. don't do that though...lying is one thing but lying in the military is a federal crime with a 5 year prison sentence and a hefty fine. i know...i was told a thousand times at the MEPS. don't worry...you'll be 17 soon enough. i thought i'd never turn 18. but try JROTC and the cadet programs...it'll get you away from home for a while.
here are some good things about military branches:
1.) Army-most job opps
2.) Navy-more adventure and seeing the world (just my opinion) and sealife
3.) Air Force-pretty cool job opps
4.) Marines-toughest, most proud to be in
5.) Coast Guard-a lot of action (so i've been told) and women are allowed in combat. they don't go to iraq...not that kind of combat...but women aren't restricted whatsoever.

Euterpe,
If you are just dyin' to get into the army ASAP (which I don't recommend but that's me) here's how:
When you turn 16, tell the Army Recruiter you are interested in signing up for the split-option (split-op) Army Dep program.
At the age of 16 you can you can go and do your basic training. This can only occur AFTER you have completed your junior year - during your summer break. You will be one of the YOUNGEST there FYI, so make sure your mature enough to hang with the big-dogs for 9 weeks. You'll get paid for those 9 weeks.
You will return home to finish your senior year of highschool.
Once that is complete, and its summer break time, you go and attend your Advance Initial Training (AIT)....your job skill that you will learn. You'll still be one of the youngest there, but not by much, and you'll be ahead of the game of your peers from highschool, who may decide to join - and have to attend their basic training, while you are in AIT already.
As long as you turn 18 BEFORE you graduate your AIT, you will be good. The Army will make sure to schedule a school date that will have you 'job skill qualified' on or after your 18 birthday.
Good luck and keep your grades up (to get a GOOD JOB when you take the ASVAB).
Women are frequently on the battlefield mind you. I don't know where everyone else is getting their information, but its WRONG.
I will caveat that by saying this: Women are not allowed in Infantry, Armor (tanks and cavalry), Artillery, and Special Forces. Those are men only job skills at this point in our history.......
However, the army is made up with a 1:10 ratio. For every one fighting man (the above mentioned male only jobs), there are 9 other soldiers supporting him. These jobs are made of men AND women. Military Police, Intelligence, Cooks, Administration, Postal, Supply, Transportation....just to name a few. In today's world, women are constantly on the front line serving their country. IEDs are non-sexist, meaning they kill and injure ALL soldiers - both male and female. So are bullets. All soldiers carry a rifle. Everyone gets the same "infantry-rifle" training in basic, no matter what your job is. You are a soldier first, then your job skill.
Once again, I hope that helps.

Females are not allowed into combat and you must be 17 to join; you also must have a high school diploma or GED. You settle down and finish school then look at the military services if you still want to join and make your mind up on one and join. You do need to stay in school though and get your diploma.

You will have to wait until you are 18 and have graduated high school. A lot can happen to change your mind in the next 5 years. And no women are not allowed in direct combat roles, but in the current style of warfare, women can and do have to fight.

You don't have to be an infantryman to be in combat. Now adays truckdrivers, medics, mechanics, cooks have all seen some combat. It just depends with what unit you are with and where you are. You do have to wait until 17 the earliest. I wish you the best of luck.

you are 13. you will change your mind no less than a dozen times about what you want to do in the next 5 years.
no, there are no loopholes.. women many not serve in active combat roles, but they can definitely serve in supporting combat roles. Shoshana Johnson, Lori Piestewa and Jessica Lynch served in supportive roles.
