No, not in public school. Private school, sure, why not?

No and here is the main reason why
1) religion, morals and majority of social skills are the province of the PARENTS..not schools and it is parents being lazy, stupid, and selfish who want the schools to do their job...pretty soon parents will want schools to read bedtime stories and tuck kids in to bed....leading to state child facilities where good citizens are raised by the government.

2) Schools have enough to do teaching kids and trying to keep kids from getting boo boo knees and boo boo "feelings" in this day and age where "caca head" can result in a family suing for $768,000,000,000,000,000.

3) Have some f'n respect for your God! If you want to pray then go ahead and do it but don't be a damn diva about it stomping and screaming that people need to watch you pray so "they all know how much you love God".

4) NO PRAYER will do any good unless the FAMILY has laid down a solid foundation of morals and believes and if family does not do it's job from #1 then making kids spout a prayer will do nothing but waste time

5) IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL....the USA Constitution says religion and state are seperate, AS THEY SHOULD BE. Only complete idiots want to merge the 2 since previous to religon's encrouchment BOTH religion and state did great being seperate..people had more faith and state was efficient.

Remember this: Those who want prayer in schools do not want prayers of Islam or Jewish prayers, or Buddhist ones...they want a room full of students, while teachers walk up and down the rows of children, all reciting Christian prayers with corporal punishment awaiting those who do not pray correctly or emphatically enough.

Prayer has never been prohibited in school. Mandated or lead prayer is prohibited, because there are currently over 3,000 different religions in America. With this many religions, there is not one way to pray or one time for prayer. Typically, the individuals who are pushing for prayer in school are individuals that would have a lot of trouble with their children being lead in a Muslim prayer, a Wiccan prayer, or a Hindu prayer. As long as there is freedom of religion in our country, one faith system cannot be chosen above any other. The Constitution prohibits respecting one religion over another.

In the USA compulsory prayer is not allowed in public schools, but both kids and teachers are allowed to do it in school during spare time. In my opinion that's a good idea.

We had compulsory prayers at my public schools in the UK, and it didn't offend me or do me any harm. I think the rule in the USA may be necessary to prevent the extreme religious groups that are common there from taking over everything in schools where they have influence.

Prayer is in schools. What is banned is school-sponsored or teacher-led prayer. Students can pray at any time as long as they don't disrupt class.

I think that there should be a moment of silence that allows people to pray but doesn't force them to. Having an established religion in our schools would only create conflict.

See Abington vs. Schempp for the real case and reason organized prayer and devotions were removed from schools by a very conservative Supreme Court.

prayer...well u shouldn't force them all to pray in a public scul, some might not believe in the same things, that's just inviting disputes, however God did create the world, however u decide 2 interpret that is up to u, but "one nation under God" is a fact, not a prayer.

It is in school. Silent prayer that is. Anyone can pray to their God or Gods without showing any outward appearence of it.

I don't think so. If a kid wants to do it, silently and to himself, yes why not? I often times close my eyes in public and say a little prayer. It should never be a requirement or part of the school day. That would be forcing something upon children, some whose parents would not like that one bit. And I wouldn't blame them. But also the kid should never be reprimanded because he chooses to do so. .

Absolutely not in a public school. Religion is religion and school is school. There is absolutely no reason why they should be combined. Personally, I dont care if a student wants to pray during school, as long as it isnt during class time and/or led by a teacher as a school exercise. Most school's have about a 7 hour school day. That leave 17 other hours of the day that you can pray. Why do it in school?
