People used to dye their hair with kool-aid all the time when I was growing up, it was pretty popular in the 80's. I mean, why not? It's cheap and available. The main draw back is that if you have naturally darker hair, it won't work that well. And as you found out, it isn't very comfortable. People used to do it because it is usually easy to rinse out. Sometimes, people have a hard time getting it out and sometimes it stains your hair or even your scalp. It all depends on how you mix it up. If you mix in some crushed up chalk of the same color it seems to help even out the color. Or putting gel in your hair and then soaking it in kool aid gives a neat temporary hair color (that's the way I always did it). Good luck!

Kool aid is NOT a hair dye. As you said it all rinsed out. Hair dye uses strong chemicals that actually penetrate the hair shaft and stay there for a few weeks. If you can drink it...it isn't strong enough to do this.

Did you use sugarless kool-aid? You have to get the ones that come in little packets that you're supposed to add sugar to, but don't add the sugar. That will prevent the crustiness and itchiness.
And ya, it rinses out after one wash!

You would have to bleach your hair out first to make the kool-aid colour stay in. It's really quite a bit easier to buy some of that funky coloured hair dye instead.

If it's hair dye you're looking for, you get hair dye. If you want a sugary drink, you get kool aid. Once again, if you want your hair dyed, get dome hair dye. If you want a drink of a sugary nature, I suggest drinking kool aid.

I died my hair with red kool aid when I was 13 and it didn't come out. I had my hair stripped, bleached and dyed. It still stayed red. It had to grow out. My parents were pissed.

HAHAHA I have to say that is pretty funny! I have heard ppl say that they have done that, but I think there is more to it than dumping kool aid on your head. Good luck.
