I am in the middle of the college process. Most of my actual applications are done and I would like to thank the teachers for their recommendations. However, I probably will need their help for scholarships as well. I don't want them to think I forgot about their help, but I don't want to thank them and then give them more work. What should I do?

Thank them by writing a short note, and don't worry about it. Better to do too much than too little. Would you be upset if you were in their place? Of course not, and neither will they. Good luck for the college of your choice.

I think it's just fine to thank them before asking them for another favor. In fact, it will probably make them more disposed to continue to help you.
