dvd playing on comp problem?

on XP im trying to play DVD's and they will not play w/ sound at all. why? and now do i fix it?

happened to me. Follow these steps in order.
1: take out dvd
2: restart computer
3: open Windows Media Player
4: stick in CD

works for me...

There is a difference in DVD's where did you get the DVD, is it a Commercial DVD Movie, or is it a Homeade movie with DATA, AUDIO, VIDEO,
What Media was used, DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW
Not all Optical Drives are capable of reading some formats of DVD's
