I remember it as "feed a fever; starve a cold" - nothing was said about the flu! They didn't know about flu bugs when the phrase was coined.

I've found that the phrases are confusing cause they are not right anyway. You need to push fluids and eat light and dress moderately warm but not overly warm in both cases. And I find that chicken soup, orange juice and zinc do wonders for the cold. A tepid water bath works wonders for the fever. And a steamed bathroom helps a lot if the cold has a cough.

Either one is wrong in terms of health. When you have a cold or the flu you must eat as normal and healthy a diet as you can tolerate. It doesn't make sense to feed and infection, but it does make a whole lot of sense to feed yourself when you have an infection. Also, if you "starve" youself you only delay the healing process. Think about it.

you have your answer here a few times already here.

You feed the cold, and strave the fever.
You dont fuel to fever with more heat you douse it with cold water and ice.
You give the cold medicine and healthy food to heal. and rid yourself of it.
