In a closed paper bag, with a ripening tomato. The gas from the ripening tomato will hasten the ripening of the banana. Ripe bananas in the fridge would develop brown skin, which does not affect the taste. The cool fridge will help keep a ripe banana longer than if the banana is left ona the counter top.

A banana will ripen faster in a brown paper bag on your kitchen counter. Putting a banana in the fridge will turn the peel brown but the fruit will not ripen. Bananas are tropical fruits and need warm moist air to ripen. Cool air will retard the ripening process.
FYI: Putting a banana in a brown paper bag with other unripe fruits such as peaches and necertines will help them to ripen faster/

Keeping them in a fridge permanently blocks their ripening process
"Do not store them in the refrigerator when they are green, or this will irreversibly interrupt the ripening process (and it will not revert even if they are kept at room temperature afterwards)"
They ripen faster when exposed to ethanol/methanol, and apples actually produce a small amount
"If you need to speed up the ripening process, you can place the banana in a paper wrap with an apple."
