We were attacked by Iran so why did we invade Iraq?

Thet are run by a bunch of crazies and a president who has super low approval ratings and who has a term that runs out in 2009 just like Bush but they didn't attack us. We invaded Iraq because of: 1) they had weapons of mass destruction or at least the leadership of the US thought they did or, 2) Bush's strategy was to create a beacon of liberal democracy in the mideast (he wrongly thought that this would be an easy place to do it - he should not have listened to chalabi / cheney) or, 3) Bush thought that the saudi government was in a precarious situation in late 02 - early 03 and thought he should take Iraq for the oil underneath it (imagine if al qaeda took over saudi arabia and took all that oil off the market - catastrophic blow to the world economy). If you don't smoke, get excersize, and don't eat stuff that gives you high cholesterol then you will probably be able to know from history exactly why the US invaded Iraq and how successful it turned out to be.

Iraq invading Kuwait in 1990 started the conflict. Saddam not complying with the "Terms of Cease Fire" led to many UN Security Council Resolutions. many using the term "serious consequence". This means military action in diplomatic speak.

Any Member Nation may enforce resolutions if it so chooses.

The US and Great Britain chose to enforce rather than continue the ongoing containment the US was paying for.

It was a gimme in the ongoing battle with Iran. With NATO to Iran's east, using the legal option to go into Iraq places NATO to Iran's west. Saudis are happy, Kuwait is happy, Jordan is happy, Dubai etc, etc. Iran has been the thorn in the side of Middle East peace since 1979. Why do you think they are talking crap, they know their end is near. Syria is their ONLY friend in the region and they are nothing.

Iraq started the Iraq war when they invaded Kuwait, and refused to follow the UN resolutions after being kicked out of Kuwait.

We weren't attacked by Iran. We were attacked by Al Qaeda, who was operating out of Afghanistan.

And the U.S. invasion of Iraq started the war in Iraq. We still haven't gotten a satisfactory answer as to why, out of the President.

Who started the war; not what. Bush started the war which was approved by Congress based upon lies fed to them by Bush.

You must not read or watch the news. Iran did not attack us; we attacked them.

The Gulf War, in 1990, was begun by Iran attacking Kuwait. We drove Iran back & that was the end of that war.

Bush, the father, was critized for not finishing Sadaam off so Bush, the son, wanted to do what his father didn't; hence the beginning of this war. At least, that's how I see it.

Iraq was not making nuclear weapons but wanted the world to think so so that they wouldn't be attacked by other countries. The person above me is incorrect re their making nuclear weapons -- that was what Bush was lying about.
