I have a small living room with a 2 story vaulted ceiling (popcorn-white) and a wood moldingborder about 4' high. I want two good colors to paint both parts that go together well for the separation between the molding. I was thinking maybe a darker color on top and lighter on bottom. I have creme color couches and light wood floors. I always seem to go with neutral colors but wanted to maybe add some slight color. Any help is appreciated. I am a single male that likes a more masculine look...in other words no pinks lol

I'm thinking dark red (burgundy or similar color) with a medium-light brownish khaki/taupe. I would consider putting the darker color on the bottom. The room may seem un-balanced if you put the darker color above the lighter color.

It is true that a dark color will make a room seem smaller but you have vaulted ceilings so I don't think a dark color will be a problem.

The above colors aren't quite right, as our monitors will be different and websafe colors can't convey the diversity of what you can get in paint, but you get the idea. Those colors will look good with your couches and floors.

To compliment your existing furnishings and retain a masculine appearance, stick with darker beige or browns. In your case, use can use a third color above the molding. Keep a brown or beige, and simply add a hue of red to create the second color. Lighter colors, with the exception of the trim, have a feminine touch. Always paint the room's trim a lighter color for good contrast.

Natural brown would make a neutral color and a cream for the highlights would be great. I`m sure there are a thousand ideas and colors out there too. Just remember that the darker the color the smaller the room will seam.

I'd say go with something that you can bring in a nice red! It would look good with the color of the furniture, it's still very guy like, would probably impress a lot of people if you chose a bold color like that too! lol From the way you described the room I think it would look awesome. Take a chance! :) Good luck!

Been painting since 1972 and I would recommend you go to Walmart and look at color place paint charts. Best paint I have ever used. And believe me in 35 years I have used alot of paint. Half the price also.

Maybe a hunter green?? Or some sort of dark green. Maybe even brown, or burgundy.
