I dislocated my knee ccap about 10 times in the past 2 or 3 years. It hurts more and more every time and it takes longer to heal everytime. I just finished about a 2 month physical therapy session. I now have to option of getting my knee scoped b/c i tore the ligament and cartilage that holds my kneecap in place. this should cut out all the stuff thats torn.

1. has anyone ever had this done to them?
2. does it hurt?
3. how long is the recovery process?
4. can u walk right after or do u need to keep it braced or something?

i know my doctor can answer this but i dont see him for about a week and im curious.

thanks.

I have had 14 knee surgeries and many of them have been scopes. Your answers kind of depend on what the doctor does while he/she is in there. I have had surgeries where I literally could walk out of the hospital and others where I was on crutches or in a wheelchair for months. Either way, it will be a day procedure, so you will have surgery and be released on the same day. You will be given pain medications for pain control and probably injected with a numbing agent like marcaine, which usually lasts for a day or two. Like I said, it depends on what the doctor finds and what he/she does in your knee that will determine your recovery and rehab. But it doesn't sound like you did anything too major, so I think you will be better in no time. E-mail me if you have more questions. I hope that helped.

I just had the scope surgery July 2nd cuz I had the same problem. It was cartilage detached from the bone and a frayed meniscus. I am now walking with crutches. They said I'll be recovering till December and thats when I can go back to baseball. So if you wanna play this season really bad dont get it. BUT they said if i didnt get surgery then it could get alot worse and I would have permanent arthritis. So if you want to play in the future it would be best to get the surgery now.

I have not had this procedure but was in Hospital when another female in the next bed had this procedure. She was a day patient, went down to Surgery, had the knee scope and clean out came back within three hours, large bandage on knee. The PT arrived about one hour later, showed her some exercises and she was discharged home with crutches at 5pm.
