what major in college is most related to a pilot's line of work? Also, should the major be somewhat related to your position, or can it be totally unrelated like economic for a pilot slot? thank you.

You can be any major you want.
At the university I'm assigned to, we had four cadets selected for pilot last year. Cadet #1 was an environmental engineering major, Cadet #2 was an economics major, Cadet #3 is a aviation mgt major and Cadet #4 is a computer science major. Your board score consists of commander's ranking, GPA, and PFT score, etc.. (Sometimes that one extra push-up makes the difference!) Did I mention that the #1 cadet had a 3.99 GPA and the #4 cadet had a 3.6 GPA? Pick a major that you are going to be good at!

MrsJVB is incorrect. You can choose ANY major in AFROTC and still be competitive to be a pilot.

However, AF Officer Schools require a degree output of 80% technical degrees... meaning if you want a scholarship in ROTC and you're not going for a technical degree, you'll still be elligable though competing for only 20% of the available slots. It's not impossible though. My roommate was a buisiness admin major and is a pilot for the USAF right now.

Finally, I will point out that the norm for pilots is generally an engineering degree, but that's only because of AFROTC's focus on technical majors and engineering is the natural choice for most technical majors... ie, it's the most common choice for cadets, and therefore coincidently ends up being the most common major for pilots as well

There's really no major that's related to a pilot's line of work in the way you need, unless you have Flight Technology at your school like Arizona State does. We've had History and English majors recently get pilot slots, so major doesn't really have much to do with it all...you either have it or you don't, basically. How much @ss you can kiss is a bigger factor, to be honest.

[Edit]

Whoever downvoted me is clearly not familiar with the infamous "Good Ol' Boys Club" of the Air Force. If you don't think schmoozing is a major part of getting that pilot slot and you can get by on the virtue of grades and PFT scores alone, you are sadly mistaken. I don't say any of this with any bitterness; I never tried for a pilot slot and I never wanted one. But I know enough people trying for it, plus a fighter pilot father and a bomber grandfather, that I know what it entails.

Promithius9594 has the right answer. I went for AF officer. Was majoring. Did 4yrs in ROTC, but ended up serving light infantry for 2 yrs. as lieutenant, And now as Sr. Lieutenant in Anti-tank Artillery, on the border of Ukraine and Moldovia. Its an unreliable method, but I will be able to Join UA AF as soon as I get promoted to Cptn.

you only have a select number of Majors to choose from while in ROTC. and no, economics would not be good enough to get you a slot in Aviation.
