Anyone know of any sites on decorating with style that don't cost much. I've been making origami to decorate the ceilings, for example. Or does anyone have any clever fun ideas?

One idea that saves money and space, and hassle, if you ask me...is to surround yourself with items that are both pretty and functional, and weed out most of the things in your world that aren't. Things like dishes, linens, organizing tools, furniture...all have a decorative element, in addition to serving a real purpose. SO if you enjoy what they do and how they look, you have a real head start on getting an efficient but very livable space.

Some crafty type ideas that lend themselves to functional outcome...

Knitting and other yarn crafts...quilting and sewing. Paper making. Soap and candle making....and a lovely side craft of aromatherapy (messing with scent to make air fresheners, cleaners, bath products, etc.) Digital photography and making small picture frames out of stock millwork, found objects. All you need to make a nice picture frame is a miter box, a hammer, and a small saw...so it is a cheap investment in a hobby.

You also might like other small woodworking projects, for things like trays, shadow boxes, storage containers, etc...maybe even work your way up to a footstool...

Painting, if you are good at it, becomes a way to furnish your home, and maybe even pull in some bucks.

If you can paint the apartment walls, paint to suit your taste, knowing that it is fairly cheap and fixable if you don't like it. Big impact.

I find that ribbon is great to fix to bathroom walls for the purpose for hanging your pairs of earrings up.
Other than that, those worthless free AOL CDs are a lot of fun to cover walls with.
Check garage sales.
I've found some amazing things at sales and secondhand stores.

you should go on HGTV.com or watch that channel. They constantly are showing decorating shows. Oragam on ceiling are horrible unless it is a chinesse inspired rooom. An other cute idea is to have those cloth chinesse balls
(paper lanterns) that hang on the ceiling. They sell them in pbteen or you can get them at like walmart and they com in all sorts of colors.http://www.pbteen.com/products/p2263/index.cfm?pkey=clgthan

with the ribbon you can sew it on fabric for a pillow case or your bed comforter. You can also glue them on canvises and make your own art. also christmas is comming! so use it to tie around presents for a classical look.
