I asked a question about a "perfect child".. and someone is going to say that I can't be a Christian because I listen to Beyonce... Beyonce is even Christian! My dad knew Bey ever since she was 10! He knew because of the CHURCH THEY BOTH WENT TO!! So I can't be Christian if I listen to Beyonce? I don't remember the bible saying anything about Beyonce...

I personally believe that music touches your soul. For me, there are very few things that can raise me up like listening to a great song. However, I don't think a song has to be Christian based to do so. I love music, and I listen to a large variety of bands/genres. As long as the music is not anti-Christian or something that goes against your beliefs, I think you should listen to whatever pleases you. Exclusion should not be a part of your Christian beliefs. How can you reach the unsaved if you can't "speak their language?"

No way. I'm what you might call a Christian (though I will admit that's a bit of a watered-down term) and I don't listen to any Christian music at all. I don't listen to Beyonce - but that's a matter of taste! I do listen to Fischerspooner, Muse, the Beatles, the Strokes, David Bowie... the list goes on.

The type of music that you listen to does not reflect what type of person you are.

The Bible says that it's not what goes into you that tells what you're about - it's what comes out of you - what you say and do that reflects your heart. If Christianity was about such small things as Beyonce vs. no Beyonce, then I wouldn't have anything to do with it.

It's important as a Christian to not get hung up on the little things. What matters is the basics - the roots of what you believe.

The Bible doesn't say anything about music in Beyonce.. what you have to do is only don't do something if you feel there's something wrong with it. When I went to Christian school, I was told the movie "Star Wars" is un-Christian because it uses "The Force".. but the whole movie is about good overcoming evil, and battling darkness inside yourself to lead a good life..

I won't lie to you, I'm not Christian any more (I follow a different spiritual path, but lead what I believe is a good and spiritual life), mainly because of this sort of "You can, you can't" stuff you get fed from a lot of fundamentalist Christians. But no matter what your religion is, I believe firmly that as long as you avoid things that you feel are immoral, or wrong, then you're doing okay.

This was a hard issue for me. you CAN listen to whatever you want. God gave us the freedom to choose right from wrong. is beyonce and all that type of music gonna help you get into heave.?? Either you're a Christian or not. Christian music or secular music. Music that glorifies God and helps grow your relationship with Him is the only thing that's gonna matter in the end on Judgement Day. Bootylicious, Survivor, and all that stuff won't do any good.

I believe that as a christian you have the choice to decide what is right and wrong for you. I love beyonce along with rap and hip hop but there are times when i am singing the words and when i take the time to actually consider the meaning i think about what God would think about it. I struggle with it alot because there ARE many songs with amazing beats that I sometimes say "well it doesn't really matter, because I know better" But alot has to do with what you are putting into your head...trash in-->trash out

so bottom line, if your asking about a certain genre of music being bad, i dont believe there is such a thing
however be careful of what kind of lyrics you are putting in your head.

There's no rule that says Christians can't listen to certain music. It's strictly based on the Christian's choice of listening preference. Some Christians see rap and hip hop as provocative and demeaning to women. Others see it as an anthem and just claim to not listen to the words, but "get down with the beat". It's strictly your choice. I listen to Beyonce, and I'm a Christian, but then again, it's not like Beyonce is out there trash talking the president and women in her music unlike others.. I think it's a matter of how faithful you are and how desired and dedicated you are to filling your ears with appropriate music.

This depends highly on the denomination of Christianity. Yes, there are some denominations that restrict dancing and certain types of music. As a pastor's daughter, my personal belief is that some music has lyrics that are inappropriate, however much you may insist that you're not listening to them and you "just like the music." However, I don't think that, say, rap for instance is evil in and of itself. There are Christian rappers. I (and my church) believe you can listen to whatever genre you please as long as you're not compromising yourself and your relationship with God. No, the Bible doesn't say anything about Beyonce, but it does say that words are powerful, and the lyrics we listen to do pervade our subconscious - they affect us more then we know. Ok, ok, sorry.... I'm going too long. It's a topic I've discussed before. Hope this helps.

The Bible doesn't address what types of music Christians can listen to. However, most Christians agree that it is not fitting for a child of God to listen to music that glorifies sin. A Christian who desires to live a life that honors God can't give the "amen" to lyrics that make it sound cool to have sex outside of marriage or to engage in other sinful practices.

Some hard line Christians try to impose their own personal convictions about music on others and that goes against what the Bible teaches. If you want to hear some great teaching mixed with humor on this subject the click on the "My Pastor" button @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/

The bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. The bible tells us to come from among them and seperate ourselves. Meaning this all Christian are not living right . You listening to Bey will not stop you from being a christian but in the long and near future it can ruin your testimony. Christians should not sing what she sings listen to her words how does that being Glory to Jesus name it doesnt one bit. How does beyonce line up with the bible, look at how shes dresses look at the words she sings look at her life style you do the math, You will never be perfect and neither will i until Jesus Christ comes back and we will be as he is. take this to your father and have him go more in detail about what i am saying. I am not saying that she is not a christian but what i am saying that if she is, she is truly an worldly one

it's not that you can't listen to certain types of music, the Bible is not clear on the issue obviously. However it does suggest that Christians should be careful how they behave, how they dress, how they speak and what they think about. When you are listening to secular music, your attention is not on the things of God. Here are a few verses which might help you choose your music:

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

and

Ephesians 5:4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

Ephesians 5:18 but be filled with the Spirit, 19addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
9 What you have learned andreceived and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

I would suggest that the content of alot of modern music does not fall into these category. Choose carefully what you are feeding your mind on and if you have any doubts about it, chances are you need to find another station, or just switch off. Maybe go and read the Bible instead?

I hope you find the answers you're looking for.
