She isn't fixed right now and I know she is not in heat. Her meow is cross between a growl and a meow. she doesn't do it constantly. She's done this twice in the last week and a half. She goes to the litter, but she seems to have to push really hard when going for a poop.

Is she straining to poop or to urinate? Although more common among male cats, female cats can become blocked in their urinary tract and the straining to urinate looks like straining to defecate.

Call the vet if you believe your cat is constipated. If the cat has not had a bowel movement in a couple of days, let them know. She may need an xray to rule out intestinal blockage. If she is constipated, they can give her an enema to help ease the discomfort. If constipation becomes a problem for her there are things that you can give her (like Lactulose or DSS tablets) to help her bowel movements. But call the vet first and foremost to get their opinion.

you can go to the pharmacy of walmart and you can buy what is called babylax it is over the counter so you dont need a prescription...it is just gylcerin (mineral) water you squeeze the little tube into the butt of your cat and she will go within 30 minutes or less...make sure you wrap her up in a towel before you do this and an extra pair of hands will help since she may try to scratch you

Why haven't you taken her to a vet?

There is something called Petromalt, it's supposed to help things move along in the bowel. It's a paste, you can buy it at any pet store.

But she needs to see a vet first, there might be something REALLY wrong.

Good luck.

The most common cause may well be the diet. Do you feed her dry feed or wet food or a mixture of both? Dry foods are good, but wet food helps cats' palatability. If you aren;t already, try feeding her half-wet food, half-dry food and see if it gets any better. Also, certain feeds such as premium food help digestion etc for cats, try feeding her premium foods

Exlax will do the job but I would look at her diet first. If she is on dried food then she will need loads of fluids to balance things. perhaps change to a tinned fod for a few days to see if this alters the situation, if not then I would take her to the vet.

consider giving a laxative. Exlax at 1-10th its strength is what I gave my cat and it helped. Also consider seeing the vet to rule out tumors that can cause blockages!
