I say women cuz I've yet to see guys do this. I work in a gym and work out 3-4 days a week and never seen a man do this. I've seen some ladies just flap their lips for the entire duration of their workout. I figure if they can speak then they're just not working hard enough.

The YMCA that I go to doesn't allow this. Good thing cuz the place is usually packed.

Unless your there with them and expect conversation why do you care if they talk on the phone? I would think youd be busy doing your own workout. I hate cell phones and wouldnt own one but youre peeve about this seems petty. I would be more concerned about the people who use them while driving.

I'm a stickler for proper gym etiquette. I regularly attend a gym and I think that there are certain things people need to do to be considerate of others.

Talking on a cell phone while working out is rude. It's a distraction for those around you, who aren't trying to listen but are being distracted by the person talking on their cell phone. At the gym I go to, Life Time, cell phone use isn't even permitted in the changing room, so why would it be permitted around people trying to concentrate.

And yes, if people are able to do cardio and talk on the phone without losing a breath, they need to step it up a few notches and get to sweating.

The YMCA I used let this happen all the time! It was very annoying, because they always talk super loud to be heard over the music and the whirring of the machines. It was horrible to be on a machine next to them.

I think its rather distasteful because when I'm at the gym its to relax and work out and hearing another's drama does not sit well with me but to each their own. This is why I just turn on my Ipod and most recently invested in a bowflex.

I'm amazed that they can do it at all. Well........are they really loud and distracting to you? I know it's considered rude to be on the phone when you're trying to go through the checkout lines in the store, but I'm not sure, since they're not actually dealing with another person while working out, if it would be considered rude. And I've read that when you're jogging, you should go at a pace where you could actually carry on a conversation. HEY! That's it! They are pacing themselves. Who knew.

Yeah, that's really rude--especially to someone who is really trying to focus on their workout. That's the last thing we want to hear is some loud girl on her phone!!!!

I do not think it is rude because they are not on a date with you or talking to you, they are in a public place, if it's rude for her to talk on her cell phone in a gym then it is rude for everyone to talk on their phone anywhere that is public.

Do you think the friends who are talking in the gym on the treadmill are rude also? If you don't the only difference is you can hear both ends of the conversation.

I think it is stupid because why talk on your phone if you are in the gym. Is it idiotic? ...yes...Is it annoying?... yes...Is it rude?... no.
