You knew before bording a plane that the captain had the ability if he felt "for certain" the plane was being high jacked to put everyone to sleep with gas. To get the plane landed safley? I understand there would be "technical" health issues that would have to be addressed in medical technicalites. But would YOU be willing to let "the captain" have the ability to do such a thing if it could potentialy save the lives of those on the plane and potentialy who ever these hijackers would want to "crash into" ?

I appreciate all your nice answers. I think Haley put it in the best way. As for the nasty comments. Save yourself the time and energy. I was asking a "question" that was not stupid. I did not expect to be accused of "doing drugs" LOL, I work for the goverment. Drugs are not something I am into. Perhaps a good imagination and just pondering the thought. But not with Drugs. Thank you all for your respectful answers.

The fact is: if we let ourselves become afraid, the terrorist have won their war, and our "war on terror" is lost.
Let's assume there are clues so strong to enable the pilot to know for sure there are hijackers on the plane. Well, he has enough elements to delay the flight, and call professionals, like policemen or professional vigilance, to subdue them. Hijackers are not stupid people, you saw the documentaries aired after the 11/9, they're schooled and tutored about everything on planes. They can pilot a plane themselves, if they need. Plus, they see the news on TV, and they surf the net for information. They know of the gas, and they could use them on their advantage.
It's like when they banned everything made of sharp steel, or even blunt steel that could be sharpened on flight: hijackers started bring ceramic knives and explosive. Now several companies are blacklisting baggages with bottles filled of liquid. Every kind of liquid. Essentially, a diabetic person or a kid (less likely to control himself) may suffer more disconfort than a hijacker, that knows were and how conceal small weapons.

I feel I would feel if my security is in hand of a third, trained, security officer than depending from a device that could be used against me, or not used at all because hijackers moved too fast.

It's hard to debate the issue of infringement when it seems like such a bad idea in the first place. It seems to me like it'd be putting a very useful weapon on the plane that the terrorist could take advantage of. Also, if the terrorist was prepared for it, putting everyone else to sleep would just reduce the number of people that could fight the problem.

Why do I need a crazy thing like a sleeping gas system? If I were flying, I'd send the plane into a dive and then pull out quickly. The hijackers would rattle around in the plane like beans in a can.

I think if the captain is so worried about the plane being hijackd he should explain his reasons and either they find someone new to fly it or they bring the person(s) that the pilot has concerns about off the plane. The Captain shouldn't be able to just put every one to sleep though.

Yes. While well-intentioned, it makes "don't tase me, bro" look tame by comparison. It is overkill.

Anesthesia is not a one-size-fits-all thing...doctors or nurse anesthetists administer it under carefully controlled conditions, monitoring vital signs the entire time. It's not like Adam West's Batman's "Bat Gas", where one spray knocks the person out instantly.

No, I would not be willing. What happens if the system is triggered by a mechanical failure or a drunken captain...just as a mother is carrying her baby to the lavatory to change him?

no way. i'd be a fool to put some pilot in charge of something like that. it's bad enough i'd be letting him fly the plane after how ever many hours of no sleep. this is why i don't fly.

ok this one is easy!! yes this would be infringment of at least one of our rights. this is not only Dangerous but it takes your abitlity to
free yourself from the plane if there was an aaccident.....and if there were men on my flight that wanted to hurt my family i want to be able to take out that threat when the oppertunity presents itself.......

No, there's just too much that could go wrong while everyone's unconscious. I'd much prefer to get up on my feet and beat a would-be terrorist retarded.

I don't think that would be a very good idea. Do you know the kind of drugs those fellows do?
