Is he implying that you are all intellectually challenged and incapable of forming any independent thought of your own.

Show me any source where sheep = intelligence

Many answers say that these references are a metaphor and not to been taken literally.

Does that apply to the rest of the bible ?

I'm just confused (well not really)

Actually my concerns about this analogy is that shepherds look after lambs/ sheep in order to lead them to the slaughter. .

Then we are in undesirable shape in case you're authentic. There could be understand greater loss of life in accordance to Revelations 20:15, Rev 21:4 and not greater tears or crying etc yet we've lots of those. while he returns this is interior a similar way the disciples considered him ascend. Matt 24:30, Acts a million:11.

The reference to sheep is that they are trusting of a good shepherd.

In the Middle East I believe that shepherds lead rather than follow their flocks. Jesus describes himself as the good shepherd who will lead his sheep the right way, to the kingdom of God, his Father.

It has nothing to do with intelligence or the lack of it as I am sure you are already aware.

When He mentioned sheep or my flock,
He says it in a way that shows we are helpless.
We cannot bring ourself to Heaven, we need Him.

On the other hand, it doesn't mean that we are mentally challenged. We may do all kind of wonders in Earth but it cannot save us. We can be all kinds of doctors or professors, but it will not save us.

We must acknowledge Him as our shepherd or there no way to Heaven. Sheep does not represent intelligence. But it shows how we must be pure-hearted and child-like (not childish) meek and obedient to Him..

It could be that He is refering to peoples intelligence but if He is He is comparing it to His own. People's intelligence, like you and me, are lke simple lifeforms like jellyfish compared to Gods intelligence. However I think you will find that He uses the term sheep because the charactoristics of sheep is very much like mankind. They tend to stick together rightly or wrongly, the always need somelone to lead them, if one does somethimg like jump they all jump....I think you get the picture.

Yes. Jesus built a time machine, went foward to the 21st century, saw that sheep in our culture meant "intellectually challenged and incapable of forming any independent thought," returned to his own time, and the used the term to refer to his disciples, even though the term meant nothing of the sort in the first century. You nailed it, friend. Maybe you should go into Biblical studies and enlighten all those educated egg-heads?

This is because He (Jesus) is the good shepherd. A good shepherd guides, directs, protects his sheep or flock.

woah ppl really get angry when you take things literally i reckon the sheep thing is meant to be like just follow me and you'll be alright but it is ironic the fact that all really serious religious ppl are like sheep

well yeah, because the Aramaic and Hebrew idioms used 2000 years ago in Isreal are the same as the ones used today....

back then, "my flock" meant "people i watch over and take care of"
"sheep" would be someone watched over and cared for.
