I was nearly believing you then untill you said that you cycle at 40mph for 4 miles every day - you would be overtaking cars all the way (professional tour de france riders average about 35mph by the way if you want to make your claim more realistic)
If you are putting on weight, you are eating more calories than you use in a day
If your weight is consistant then you eat the right amount for your lifestly
If your weight is falling then you are eating fewer calories than you use in a day
So to loose weight you need to eat less than you use.
4 miles is about 10mins cycling for you. The government suggests that you do at least 20 mins cardio exercise a day that raises your heart rate to be healthier, though this is less than health experts recommend, but the governemt didnt think that 30 mins a day would get people active. So try cycling 8 or 12 miles a day instead of the 4.
You could try other cardio exercises, swimming or jogging
Cut out the weight training and if you have protein afterwards, cut that out too

probably because you are one of the following:
in order of probibility
1. Just starting (within the last month)
2. Your diet isn't really that good
3. Your weights/bike training isn't hard enough (you should really be running that far, sitting on a bike and moving the pedals for 30min. every day does less than ppl. think)
4. You're simply chronogically or genetically incapable of losing the weight you have, if you don't qualify with the top three options, you need to go see a nutritionist and maybe get your thyroid checked out. Or you are over the hill and simply can't get your metabolism going fast enough to burn more than you eat.
It all depends on how "fat" you really are and how hard you really work.

Try doing more aerobic exercise. Four miles on a bike isn't much in the way of cardiovascular exercise.
If you can get some kind of routine that keeps you at a level where you just about talk whilst running/cycling etc (that is your aerobic limit) and try to keep that up for at least 20 minutes for a good workout.
It may take time to build up to 20 minutes and you may hate it at first - i did lol - but it works and is worth it.
It's good what you are doing with the diet as well

Hi there.
I had the same problem. Firstly, I was not eating enough food. I increased the amount of veg and lean meats in my diet and had three meals a day. I made sure I also drank 2 litres of water a day as well. If you do not eat enough, your body will hold on to your reserves which you are trying to lose.
Also, it is good you cycle 4 miles a day but do you make sure you cycle fast enough to raise your pulse? You should do enough make you breathless.
Stick with it and you will do fine. Good luck.

If you are telling us the honest truth about everything it could be that there is a medical problem, for instance an underactive thyroid. I would see a GP to rule out any such problem. If the GP tells you there is nothing medically wrong with you, they could then help you set up a diet and exercise regime or refer you to a nutrionist.
Also, if you are fit but fat this is actually a lot better for your health than being thin but not fit - see the article below.

I would say up your cardio - 4miles (6km) on a bike is not very far, I ride over 21miles (34km) everyday and it's still not enough, I have to do a 4km (2.5m) run a couple of times per week aswell.
Also mix up your training, walk, swim, run (ok you might have to work up to that one, I did).
I got a personal trainer, might sound expensive now but think how much it will eventually save you in doctors bills, once a week for an hour is enough, they can give advise and keep your motivated.

How long have you been eating "a good diet?" How long have you been biking? It takes a while to lose weight for some people. Don't get discouraged, and keep trying. You will lose weight.

You are probably not eating enough.
Your portions do not need to be tiny to loose weight - you can fill up with unlimited steamed or raw or boiled vegetables, salads.
A good healthy diet and excercise will loose excess weight.

if u exercise and eat a balance diet you are less likely to be fat. The only exception may be due to genetics. So don't worry is part of nature.

I bet what you think of as a "good diet" isn't so good! Your portions are probably huge too.
My father-in-law would complain that he ate tons of salad and he didn't understand why he was fat, but his salads were HUGE and covered in fattening dressing and filled with croutons and stuff. His salads had as much fat and calories in them as a Big Mac!
Talk to a nutritionist.
