This might sound weird, but I just thought about it. My question is, is the state that we were in before we were born the same state we will be in when we die. In terms of consciousness ? I hope my question is clear enough.

I am an existentialist and I believe that existence precedes essence. Therefore, when we die, all forms of existence dies with it, thus, it's essence as well.

Who really knows? I do not recall what state I was in before I was born. I have yet to find out what state I will be in after I die.

However, looking at the available information, the most probable answer is yes. My consciousness did not exist before I was conceived, there is no indication that it will continue past my death and once again it will not exist.

Yes, it's very clear. The state we were in before we were born is non-existence. The state we will be in after we die is non-existence.

Consciousness ends with the cessation of electro-chemical activity in the brain.

We don't exist before we're born (or at least before we become somewhat sentient in the womb), and we cease to exist after die. So yes...I would say we're in the same state of consciousness before life and after death.

You were in no "state" before you were born (I am assuming you mean conceived) because there was no "you." Same after you die.

Yes. Our identity is only the result of electrochemical reactions that take place while we are alive. They didn't happen before we're born, and they'll cease once we die.
