Have you spoken with the pastor or minister about this? In a tactful way, you could explain your condition and the requirements for social security have been met and approved. Then perhaps he can start to change some views and comments in your church. It seems to me that you were simply being open, honest and sincere and yes, you can certainly have a ministry in your Church helping people with disabilities or another that interests you. Do not give up until you have spoken to the pastor in a frank discussion about your condition and feelings from the comments and questions you are getting from others in his parish or church. I wonder if certain people know the "whole" story on your health or just that you are on Social Security??

I think you need to leave that church- church is one place where you should be able to go, and feel the love of Christ, without judgment. My husband is totally disabled as well, and has chronic pain all the time- and if our church kept asking why don't he find a job, we would be gone= I am sure you would much rather be working then be in pain- what happened to reaching out in Jesus' name? Why would they have a problem that you are on SS? Strange way of showing the love of Christ to someone in pain. Know that I will be praying for you, there is a church out that will come along side of you, and not condemn you like this, we found one

If you have been open with your disability like you have just now, then there is a problem here. Either they are insensitive to your disability or they want you to work so they can get money from you. Either way, not a sign of a good church. But, to be totally fair, you have to ask them why they are asking the question....and/or share how it makes you feel when they do. It could be a simple misunderstanding of your disability.

That is crazy that they would even care! Do you mind me asking what denomination you are?
I1) don't understand why your Church would know about that unless you went around telling everyone and 2) I honestly don't think it's their business.
Church should be a place of celebrating God's love for us and worshiping Him! Not getting into other people's business, but that jmo.
Before I became Catholic a friend of ours who went to our Church(Evangelical) was so worried and kept it such a big secret from everyone that she started smoking(not that smoking is a good thing), but she was so worried what the people and the pastor were going to think about her. It really is her business and no one else's. I honestly was glad once I got out of that Church just for that reason alone. I think it was too many people worrying about everyone else, when Church shouldn't be for that reason, unless we ask someone for specific help. I would look around for a different parish to belong to if I were you.

If it have been the church i visit-this could have in no way got here approximately. in spite of the undeniable fact that, a lot of our individuals could have provided to help Peter out with non everlasting accommodations and subsistence. As a Christian--we are meant to help our brothers (no longer the undesirable and or homeless). yet we are additionally are meant to be good stewards....we'd have positioned Peter on the line innovations-blowing away.

Unless they have seen you at work on computers or something you could do when you feel yourself and does not require you standing on your legs, don't worry about it. Social security is paying you, not them. After all, if the doctors have deemed you eligible, then you are within your right. I think church members are thinking of the old ways, if you don't work, you don't eat.

Even with your disabilities, you can serve others by volunteering for something you love to do and is within your many abilities.
Perhaps your church is concerned if you are not doing anything because that is not good for you and you are not blessing others. (I didn't say you weren't doing anything, I said "if" you aren't doing anything.)
If you are trusting Jesus for your salvation, pray to the Father and ask Him to guide you through this character building opportunity.
Church is always about character building which is why it hurts so often.
God bless you.

Wow, that sucks.
If you are telling the truth, then they must think it will do you some good, and also think that you can still do a job, whatever someone can do being the way you are.
If not, then why don't they employ you? If it means so much to them, then why can't they pay you to do stuff? What's wrong with them, can't they put their money where their mouth is?
